Some conditions do not allow for the option to perform spinal decompression. Unfortunately, a patient may not be a candidate for this treatment in the following circumstances:
- Instabilities of the spine, such as recent fractures
- Bilateral pars defects
- Unstable spondylolisthesis (typically grade 2 and above)
- Gross osteoporosis
- Cancers or tumors of the spine
- Surgical hardware fixation in the region of the spine being targeted
- Pregnancy
- Patients under the age of 15
